Behind the camera....

It wasn't until several months into editing that I chose to reveal my story. My father had been killed in a train wreck the day before we left for Africa. Dealing with his death I felt connected with the Eritrean people who had lost countless loved ones in the war.

From the beginning I felt that our presence should be obvious in White Hotel, we didn't want to hide behind false objectivity. After all we, two American women, were telling an African story. Digging through my childhood memories wasn't easy but it added another layer to the story and I don't regret it.
